In the week that Jack Parow’s latest album Nag van die Lang Pette is released, debuting at Number 1 on iTunes South Africa – he took some time out to speak to SAPeople…

Jack Parow, South African rapper
Bloubek – the first single. Check out the bunny named Steve.

Jack Parow was born Jack Zander Tyler and grew up in Parow in the Western Cape. One night he was drunk, watching Pirates of the Caribbean, and he said: “F*** Jack Sparrow the pirate of the Caribbean, I’m Jack Parow, pirate of the caravan park.” He has a baby daughter with his swimsuit model girlfriend Jenna Pietersen.

For expats outside of South Africa who may not have heard of you – who IS Jack Parow?

Jack ParowI am an Afrikaans rapper from Suider Afrika. My music is rough and dirty and made for a good time. My signature is a long cap.

I think you toured Europe in 2012. Any plans for another overseas tour?

I’ve toured Europe a few times actually, it’s been fun. I’ve done England, Russia and the Benelux a bunch and will be back that side at the end of May…come party!! [See tour dates below]

Is there anyone particular who inspired you to go for it and follow your dreams?

My parents were always super supportive and just as crazy as I am, so that helped a lot.

Have you taken part in any RakNomination? (the Brent Lindeque saffer style of paying it forward)

Nope, I’ve heard of the Nek nominations…but I don’t need to be nominated to drink, I do it for free.

Please complete these sentences:

a) South Africans should vote because
…you cant keep complaining about what’s wrong if you don’t vote.

b) South Africa is great because…
it just is. I’ve been all over, but South Africa, especially my home town of Cape Town, is the best place in the world!

c) I wish South Africans would…
stop complaining and start doing.

BLOUBEK – THE FIRST SINGLE

BloubekThe very kief ‘Bloubek’ has been released with pumping electric beats and a power-packed video that’s “just as gevaarlik as the song”.

It features Fight Club stylised scenes of Parow fighting a bunny named Steve and the lyrics reference ‘Eveready’ (remember the Duracell bunny ad?)…while there’s a whole load of twerking going on from some South African women who can show Miley how it’s really done.

Parow says:

“I am heavy excited about this video.  It was a group effort and al my gevaarlike tjommies helped out to make it a success.  From Casper Lee, comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout, Derick Watts and the Sunday Blues to EFC champion, Juggernaut, came to help make crazy.  The video is just as gevaarlik as the song… so hosh ja, as jy weer terug praat los ek jou met ‘n Bloubek!’’

NAG VAN DIE LANG PETTE – THE NEW (DOUBLE) ALBUM

Nag van die Lang PetteThis is Jack’s third studio offering and is being touted as probably his “kiefest album to date”. It’s released as a double album showing off both his “romantic and dangerous sides”.

It includes 11 acoustic tracks, 12 new electric tracks and 6 comedy skits by Radio Raps.

 Parow says:

“Thank the lord it is finished.  A lot of blood, sweat and stress went into this album.  I didn’t realise what I signed up for when I tackled this double album.  It was supposed to drop last year October, but I’m glad we waited until now.

“All the kief people who contributed, make it a very special album for me.  It was a cool process en I worked with the bef*kste artists around.  Thanks to everyone who was a part of this process.

“Now I’m looking forward to dropping the tracks live.”
