When the big swell hit Durban beachfront this morning, local photographer Nic Aberdein was there to capture these stunning photographs.
“It’s been a really wild week of crazy swell hitting Durban beachfront but today it was literally breaking above the pier and the shoreline was right up to the shower,” he said.
Yesterday in Umdloti, just north of Durban, waves of 3-5 m (9-15 ft) pounded the seawalls.
Today’s pictures were taking down at North and Bay piers this morning (1 September 2014).
Down at Bay Pier, the Tow Surfers made the most of the big surf.
