World Abuzz with News of SA Species Discovery

NEW YORK – The New York Times on Friday still had as its most popular story the discovery outside Johannesburg of a new species of human, homo naledi, which was announced a day earlier. Media around the world covered the event extensively.

The major new fossil discovery – the largest assembly of fossils of human ancestry ever found – took place at Maropeng, in the Cradle of Humankind World Heritage Site which includes the famous Sterkfontein caves and has been home to several discoveries about the evolution of humans.
