As Jordy came through the tube yesterday, he raised his arms victoriously… knowing it was a perfect execution.
But before anyone can accuse him of being arrogant, he posted the following photo today – of his upper torso photoshopped onto a female gymnast’s body!
Jordy wrote on his timeline: “What a great event… never won but got a #10 pointer and perfect execution… thank you to everyone who supported me throughout the whole event… I really appreciate it… also a huge congratulations goes to the #worldchamp John John Florence [from Hawaii].. you’re the man bru ??.”
The Hawaiian won the event (and the world championship title) at Praia de Supertubos, Peniche – the penultimate event on the World Surf League Championship Tour for 2016.
Twenty-eight year old Jordy Smith’s impeccable timing in the quarter-finals on the super deep and long tube, claimed the event’s first perfect 10 point ride.
“It was an incredible wave, I had a few opportunities, one left before and I didn’t come out and that one massive right but it didn’t have any exit, so I felt like sooner or later the door was going to open,” Smith reflected. “I haven’t had a barrel like that in so long, what a feeling to get it in a contest and especially when you need it the most!”
