Gauteng Weather service has issued warnings of heavy rain, hail and possible flooding in Joburg and Pretoria late Monday into Tuesday.

Johannesburg and surrounding areas were hit by devastating floods on 10 November which left at least six people dead. Police confirmed two days ago that DNA results of the body found on the banks of the Jukskei River just over a week ago are that of the missing Alex child, Evelyn Chauke.

The region has been experiencing a heat wave with temperatures in the mid to high thirties. Today it was so hot in Pretoria that even the ostriches went for a swim, which is a rare occurrence.

Gauteng Weather tweeted that temperatures Monday in Pretoria will reach 33°C and 60% chance of rain with an “⚠️FLOODING” alert.

Joburg temperatures are forecast to reach 31°C with a 64% chance of rain and “⚠️FLOODING”.

The weather service tweeted Sunday evening: “⚠️ ALERT: The SA Weather Service has issued a watch for severe thunderstorm (T-storms) in Gauteng Province on Monday. LARGE HAIL, heavy rain and damaging winds possible.”

UPDATE Monday 05 Dec: An alert has been issued for all of Gauteng that severe storms are possible with threats of flooding and hail between 16h00 and 21h00.
