No matter what one’s thoughts may be on Barack Obama as a President, there can be no doubt that when it comes to being a husband and a father – he provided an inspiring role model for all the men out there.

At his presidential farewell speech in the USA on Wednesday, the crowd went wild as Obama paid tribute to his wife, saying: “Michelle LaVaughn Robinson, girl of the South Side – for the past 25 years you have not only been my wife, the mother of my children… you have been my best friend.

“You took on a role you didn’t ask for and you made it your own… with grace and grit and style and good humour. You made the White House a place that belongs to everybody.”

There were more appreciative words for Michelle, and then he turned his attention to his daughters and said the words every child needs to hear: “Of all that I have done in my life, I am most proud to be your dad.” (Only Malia was in the audience; Sasha had an exam.)
