Congratulations to Sergeant Marlon October who started the week by arresting two train robbers on Monday… before he had even got to work. (And a shout out to an unnamed commuter who put his life at risk to help protect the victim.)

The Rapid Rail Unit sergeant, who was on his way from the Strand to work in Belville, heard a commotion on the train just after Somerset West. Listening to his instincts, he investigated further to discover two men with knives robbing a woman.

When she resisted they apparently wanted to stab her… which is when an unnamed commuter bravely intervened by kicking one of the suspects from behind, to prevent him being able to stab the woman.

At that point, Sergeant October was approaching and “drew his firearm and ordered the two robbers to drop their knives and lie down on the floor. He arrested the two suspects – and with the help of commuters – removed them from the train at Faure Railway Station,” said the South African Police Services (SAPS).

A colleague helped with transport to the Somerset West Police Station, where the Sergeant detained the suspects.
