In a show of unity – seldom seen anywhere in the world – supporters from opposing political parties joined together peacefully to march from Church Square with a clear message: President Jacob Zuma must resign or be recalled as leader of South Africa.

Afterwards the DA said: “We are a diverse movement of people who care about the future of our country. We are the movement for CHANGE…”

EFF leader Julius Malema told the crowd “please, let’s go back peacefully. Let’s protect each other.”

He said: “When the state is threatened we put aside our differences. We unite to win back our beautiful country…”

EFF National Chairperson Dali Mpoful said: “ANC members are welcome here. This is not an anti-ANC march, this is about the removal of Zuma.”

The DA’s Gauteng Provincial Leader John Moodey said: “South Africans from all walks of life, all religions, all creeds, all races are here today united in a common cause. This is a movement of the people and this is an expression of the People’s Power.”

Party leaders encouraged South Africans to keep the momentum going, and stressed that this will not be the last march.

Until the next time… when they will again unite and act… and they will keep on until the ANC gives them the kind of leader they know they want and need…
