Charlene (nee Wittstock) visited the South African branch of the Princess Charlene of Monaco Foundation. Speaking at a cocktail party organised in aid of water safety and drowning prevention, Charlene pointed out that “here in South Africa, drowning is the second leading cause of accidental death after road accidents.”

The former South African Olympic swimmer added, “We can save so many lives, simply by teaching people essential water safety skills and how to swim and by focusing on one person, one family, one community at a time.”

Charlene, who is married to Prince Albert II of Monaco, attended several other South African events during her stay… including a visit to the Gugulesizwe Primary School where she supervised, in her capacity as Patron of the South African Red Cross, a first aid and CPR training session for the teachers and children; and the launch of the inaugural “Princess Charlene Ladies Day”: a charity race day created to support three organisations – the Red Cross, Gugulisizwe Primary School and the Highveld Horse Care Unit.

Charlene said during her visit that she hopes to bring her twins Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella along with her next time.

Meanwhile her husband, Prince Albert II of Monaco, has given tips to Hollywood actor George Clooney on becoming the father of twins. (Clooney’s wife Amal is due to give birh later this year.) Prince Albert II revealed in an interview that pouring oneself a good cup of coffee in the morning is essential. He also said that “fortunately for Charlene and for me” the twins have also been relatively good sleepers… although there still are “nights where they have to be in the bedroom with us.

“I know it seems very common sense, but having a separate room – in our case a nursery – or even a separate area prepared makes it easier for both parents to get some sleep in turns.”
