Minister of Police in South Africa, Fikile Mbalula, has confirmed that six of the “thugs” in a video filmed in Limpopo, which went viral, have been arrested.

In a tweet, the Minister said five firearms have been recovered. He then added the hashtag #wanyaTsotsi. Watch the video here:

Since taking office, after the controversial Cabinet Reshuffle by President Jacob Zuma, Mbalula appears to have taken the fight against crime seriously… and – as he did previously as Sports Minister – he is keeping engaged with the public, and keeping them up to date on Twitter.

He also tweeted late last night that four suspects have been arrested since the Sunday hijacking of Deputy Minister of Justice Makwetla, and two security guards, who were kidnapped outside the Riverside Hospital in Parktown on Sunday and only released in the early hours of Monday after an undisclosed amount of money was withdrawn from Makwetla’s bank accounts.

Mbalula also yesterday officially opened a satellite police station at Elsies River where there has been a recent spate of gun violence.

And of course, being Mbalula, he’s still tweeting jokes too…
