U.S. documentary maker Casey Neistat, known for making zany docs about pretty much anything, has almost a million hits on his video about flying from New York to Cape Town to surprise his then-girlfriend, Candice for New Year. (Scroll down for video).

The video was shot in December 2011…and two years later, almost to the day the couple have tied the knot…and of course they chose Cape Town for their venue! “Got married, it was awesome,”  Neistat commented on his Facebook page after the December 29 wedding.

The video charts Casey’s journey from booking his ticket just a few hours prior to take-off, to flying via London to Cape Town where a very accommodating taxi driver roams the streets of Cape Town trying to find Candice’s house, armed only with Casey’s memory and a photo of the mountain taken from the house. (It’s a mountain he loves, and he runs up Lion’s Head everyday that he’s in Cape Town.)

There’s a classic line when Casey finally finds her house – which has 24-hour guard – and realises “I need to surprise her, but at the same time not get shot!”

The footage is accompanied by brilliant songs – “See You All”, sung by Koudlam, and “What are you doing New Year’s Eve?” by Nancy Wilson, performed by Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.

Casey, who once lived in a trailer park, shot to fame in 2003 when he exposed Apple’s non-replaceable ipod battery policy (which was subsequently changed).

Last year he made headlines around the world again when he was given $25,000 to shoot a promotional video for Ben Stiller’s Hollywood movie “The Secret Life of Walter Mitty”…and used the cash to take aid and food to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. (He had Twentieth Century Fox’s approval – the moving documentary fitted their brief to create an inspirational video based on the theme “to live your dreams”.)

“USA Today” voted his YouTube Channel the Best TV on the Web for 2013.
