The South African fashion designer has been tweeting his movements all week in the Big Apple, from a ride in a yellow cab to meeting supermodel Ajak.

And last night he continued to proudly share his experience with his equally proud followers, from the moment he checked in backstage until less than 25 minutes before the spectacular show…charting his “journey to build a brand ‘Made in South Africa’, New York and the world.”

This was David’s third appearance at NY Fashion Week, held at Lincoln Center. He has previously showcased his designs as part of a collection of South African designers.

David Tlale first launched his “elegant, opulent and magnificent” brand just over 10 years ago when he won the Elle New Talent in South Africa competition in 2003, and was noted as the Best Designer by the Sunday Times in South Africa.

David was born and brought up in Vosloorus, outside Johannesburg. He has said before that “if I grew up anywhere else in the world I wouldn’t be David Tlale, so I’m so ever grateful and blessed that I grew up in the dusty streets of Vosloorus.”

Tweets from his followers in the last few days have expressed their gratitude for “putting SA on the map” and for “teaching the youth how it’s done”.

His message to young South Africans is that “it doesn’t matter that I grew up in Vosloorus or anywhere in the world. You can make it if you believe in it.” And, as they say, if you can make it in New York – you can make it anywhere!

David’s own tweets included “my God is an awesome God” (after walking through the Lincoln Center four days ago in preparation for last night’s show) and yesterday’s “this is it…12 noon Today. 7pm SA time…. @proudlysouthafrican brand, made in “South Africa” by a “South African” child prepared for the world….”

You make us proud David Tlale! The world is waiting!
