Lawyer Barry Roux said on Wednesday that Pistorius’ “financial ability” for a new trial was “non-existent”, according to news reports. In October 2014, Pretorius was sentenced to five years in jail for killing Reeva Steenkamp.

Pistorius was meant to have been released on parole on 21 August, but Justice Minister Michael Masutha said the parole review board acted prematurely when it set that date. The board is expected to meet on Friday to decide if Pistorius can serve out the rest of his sentence under house arrest.
