The commission, chaired by Judge Willie Seriti, was established in September 2011 to investigate allegations of fraud, corruption, impropriety or irregularity in the multibillion-rand arms deal.

“The report will be processed and further communication will be made in due course,” the presidency said.

News reports said the arms deal saw government acquiring, among other items, 26 Gripen fighter aircraft, 24 Hawk lead-in fighter trainer aircraft for the SA Air Force and frigates and submarines for the SA Navy.

The deadline for the report to be handed in was tomorrow, 31 December. Public hearings, which formed part of the commission, wrapped up in June.
