But Nathan and Grace Haynes’ random act of kindness wasn’t just limited to Christmas Day.

The couple from Perth – he’s a paramedic and she’s a doctor – have been working as volunteers in Cape Town whilst on their honeymoon.

A local South African Emegency Medical Services (EMS) paramedic said: “They spent quite a few shifts working at my base and also worked some shifts – all voluntary – at a Government Hospital.

“They decided to do an amazing act of kindness and all using their own money on Christmas Day. All is explained in the video. In a few days’ time they will be leaving Cape Town to continue their Honeymoon…”

“Racism will only be broken by acts of kindness and understanding.”

Nathan uploaded their video memory of Christmas in South Africa, saying: “On a working honeymoon from Australia. Thought since we had no family to celebrate Christmas with we would give a bit of cheer to the homeless community of Cape Town ? ”

Nathan told SAPeople that “after being here a month now, we feel there is an overwhelming sense of strengthening culture between people that have previously been affected by apartheid. Australia has experienced similar Indigenous history that was ceased in 1967, however the effects are still present today.

“Racism will only be broken by acts of kindness and understanding. We wanted to demonstrate this first hand on Christmas morning. The smiles of thanks were priceless!!”
