“The manner in which you have managed to use your profession as a Correctional Officer of the Law deserves recognition and respect.

“In this case, your partnership with University of Free State (UFS) for inmates to write and finish their Matric is mind boggling. You have indeed given these young men a real second chance in life.

“Your love of music is evident. Your sincerity is felt. Your undying love to stand for those who clearly cannot stand for themselves deserve to be noticed.

“You are a true example of what a South African should look like. Your solid support from your wife and family is a good sign of a family United.

“I am glad our paths crossed. Next time I come home to Bloemfontein I would like to meet you, My Hero.”

On Friday the University held its Opening and Welcoming event on campus, to which the students were invited.

Wilson uploaded photos of the event and said: “The offender learners of Tswelopele Correctional Centre, who finished matric last year, were invited to attend the event. Thanks to Professor Jansen and the Post Graduate Council members for partnering with us.”

In Mosola’s message, he added the quote “A country that does not value its youth, does not deserve its future” and said that Gustav clearly understands that. “You are my hero!”
