The one-metre-long piece of debris with the words “No Step” written on it was found in a sandbank on the weekend by American Blaine Gibson, according to news reports. A part of the Being 777 was found in 2015on Reunion, which lies on the other side of Madagascar from Mozambique.

“The location of the debris is consistent with drift modelling commissioned by the Australian Transport Safety Bureau and reaffirms the search area for MH370 in the southern Indian Ocean,” said the minister for infrastructure and transport Darren Chester for Australia, which carried out extensive searches following the loss of the plane.
