Bongiwe Mnyamana’s letter from Khayelitsha:

“I just wanna thank you not only for what you did for the community and for the Mafevuka family…but you have touched me and my life.

“Thank you for making me feel like I matter even though I live in a township…

“I remember the feeling I get when walking the streets of Claremont/Table View looking for chars to put food on the table for my family.

“I always feel so small like I don’t belong, but since the vigil my self esteem has been lifted.

“It’s good to know there are good-hearted people who will accept you and not look at you and judge you for where you come from. You have made me feel alive.

“Now I can see this rainbow nation I have been longing for.

“As I’m typing this I have nothing but thanks to you. I have hope; hope that things won’t stay like this, things will get better.

“God did not put me on this Earth to suffer. I have to get up and do something to better myself.

“Thank you, thank you. SA needs more powerful people like you.”
