British entertainer Ronnie Corbett has passed away at the age of 85 after suffering from ill-health for the last couple of years.

The comedian, who was popular around the world including in South Africa, was best known for being one half of the Two Ronnies comedy sketch on television.

Western Cape radio presenter (Magic 828am) Brian Oxley said: “Great comedian and a nice guy. Met him some years ago in Jhb. RIP Ronnie Corbett.”

According to a statement issued by his publicist , the much-loved entertainer “passed away this morning, surrounded by his loving family.”

Corbett – who was awarded the CBE by the Queen in 2012 – was in hospital in 2014 with gall bladder problems.
