While 80-year-old South African sportsman Gary Player became the oldest player to score a hole-in-one at the Masters Par-3 contest, on Wednesday, fellow South African golfer Ernie Els also broke a record on Thursday. But for the opposite reason.

Els (46) took a whopping 9 at the first hole to record the worst ever first-hole score at the Masters!

The former world number one, and four-time major winner, was within three feet of the hole, after three shots at the par four, when he took six putts to get it in.

Initial reports said he had carded a 10 which included seven putts…but footage only showed six. The BBC said “It’s still the worst first hole in Masters history, but at least he didn’t break double figures.”

Just three days ago, Ernie posted the following pic of himself with pro South African golfer Branden Grace, saying how “perfect” the course at Augusta in Georgia, USA, was. He may not be thinking that anymore!
