The former South African Olympic swimmer, who was born in Zimbabwe and moved to Benoni when she was 11, accompanied her husband Prince Albert II to the match… on a day that marks the 60th anniversary of his late mother and father’s wedding. The ceremonies of the marriage of Prince Rainer and former Hollywood actress Grace Kelly began officially on 17 April 1956.

Spanish champ Nadal beat French player Gael Monfix 7-5, 5-7, 6-0 in an amazing final on Court Ranier III.

With the royal couple watching him, Nadal (29) clinched a record-equalling 28th ATP World Tour Masters 1000 crown… and his first victory for almost two years.

In an interview, published on the Masters site, Nadal said it had been a very emotional week for him, and that “probably Monte-Carlo is one of the most important places in my career without any doubt.

“To win again here after three years is something so special for me. So very happy for that. I am enjoying emotionally.

“I know I worked hard to have this trophy with me. I am enjoying this moment. It’s an emotional moment after some tough moments. But that’s part of the life, is part of the sports in general.

“Today winning nine times here is something unbelievable for me.”
