From Namaqualand:

Hester SophiaEsta Marais: “It’s very hot and dry here in Namakwaland, but believe that the rain will come…”

From the Kruger National Park:

Joburg PR Georg Knoke: “We were so shocked to witness the severity of the terrible drought in the Kruger! It’s devastating to see how rivers have dried up, it’s mostly scorched earth and often the landscape looks like a desert!

“So many animals have already died – there are lots of skeletons visible! Darwin has spoken about the survival of the fittest! We have to pray for rain! Sad sad sad!”

From farms in the Free State:

After witnessing unbearable scenes of death and devastation on the farms in the Free State, a photo of this young farmer’s son, thanking “sweet Jesus” for the rain, became iconic of the gratitude felt by farmers during a recent downpour.

Unfortunately the rain only lasted one day, and the drought persists… According to local farmers there is a lack of help from the government and other big agri organisations. If you can help, please contact the Boere in Nood Group.

From a Food Farm in Midrand:

Yesterday promoter Penelope Stein sent out a plea: “Our Dis-Chem Foundation food farm in Midrand is being hammered, no water at all. We have crops planted to feed 15,000 people, sadly it looks like the whole lot are going to die. And there’s nothing we can do right now to save them. Please share and maybe someone will do a Random Act of Kindness for us.” Today Yusuf Abramjee stepped in:

Penny Stein: "Enormous thanks and gratitude to#operationhydrate#yusufabramjee#yaseentheba for saving our Dischem food garden. ???"

From Mkhuze Game Reserve, KZN:

Sean Koekemoer: “These sad photos makes us feel guilty about letting the shower run seconds or minutes longer than we should, or using the washing machine or dishwasher frequently…”

Let it Rain (A Nation’s Prayer)

Performed by Heinz Winckler, winner of the first South African Idols. The song is taken from his new album ‘The Roar’.

He says: “This new version, that is centred around the well known chorus of ‘Let It Rain’, was written in reaction to the drought in South Africa and the plight of our farmers. I had the honour of writing new verses for this chorus designed as a prayer for spiritual and physical rain for our nation with the original author and composer, Michael Farren and the producer of the album Daniel Ornellas.”
