South African record-breaking stand-up paddle boarder Chris Bertish has officially embarked on an epic journey across the Atlantic… to the sounds of ‘Impi’ by Johnny Clegg and Juluka, playing through the speakers of his craft, Impifish. Update: Chris Bertish successfully completes record-breaking solo SUP journey across the Atlantic Ocean!
Chris (42) is attempting the first ever, solo, SUP Trans-Atlantic Crossing! And it’s not just because he’s crazy and brave. But he’s doing it for charity. The project to Sup the Atlantic will positively change the lives of thousands of children in Africa and South Africa, according to his official facebook page.
The award-winning SUP paddler and big wave surfer will paddle the equivalent of a marathon every day for 120 days, over 7,500 km!
Chris set off this morning from the Agadir Marina in Morocco and will go via the Canary Islands, across the deep blue Atlantic Ocean, towards the leeward Islands of the Carribean before finally ending the voyage in Florida.

Chris has teamed up with some great sponsors for the challenge; resulting in a pledge to build at least five schools, feed and educate thousands of kids with The Lunchbox Fund, and pay for life-changing cleft lip and palate surgeries.
