Cricket South Africa has announced Sunday evening that AB de Villiers has passed his fitness test and has been added to the South African national squad for the third T20 against Sri Lanka.

Despite some brilliant performances – and Lungi Ngidi achieving his best T20 figures to date – Sri Lanka won the second match against South Africa today, bringing the series to a level 1-1.

After today’s 3 wickets in his opening 3 overs (finishing with 4/19), Ngidi has now taken 6 wickets in 6 overs in this series for a strike rate of 6 and an average of little more than 5.

Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews twisted his ankle during the match… but defied his injury to play a gallant and heroic innings to lead his team to the first victory of their tour, beating the South Africans by 3 wickets with two balls to spare in the second T20 International match at the Bidvest Wanderers Stadium on Sunday. Mathews was unsurprisingly named Man of the Match. It’s unsure whether he’ll be able to play the next T20.

The series will now go to a decider at PPC Newlands on Wednesday when the Proteas will be strengthened by the return of AB.
