South African rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen remains in a “stable but critical condition”, according to the latest official update from his J9 Foundation facebook page. [UPDATE 6 Feb: Joost van der Westhuizen has sadly passed away at the age of 45.]

Despite the rumours and media reports claiming he has passed away, his J9 page says: “Please continue praying, the family appreciates all the support from across the world.”

Amor Vittone, mother of his two children Jordan and Kylie, also updated her status in the last hour to say: “Joost, at this moment is still critical in hospital, but showing us all his fighting spirit!

“Please keep him in your prayers and thank you for all the beautiful messages of encouragement. Jordan and Kylie have shown tremendous courage through this difficult time. Lots of love, Amor

Earlier today she posted a photo of the family and a message in Afrikaans saying: “Ek vra names die hele familie asb, om Joost in jul gebede te hou vandag. Ons almal is by mekaar vandag. Joost ons is lief vir jou!”

The J9 Foundation has asked Joost’s fans to please only follow updates from their page (or Amor’s) to prevent the spread of rumours which are upsetting for his children, family and friends.
