In the letter Amy says that just as her third and final child left home, and she looked forward to being free and travelling the world… starting with a holiday to South Africa with her husband and parents… she discovered she had ovarian cancer.

Amy’s letter amounts to an ode to her husband and a 26-year marriage well lived and loved… although its purpose, she says, is to introduce her husband to a prospective new woman who can share their life with him after she’s gone.

She says she wants more time with Jason and her children, but “I probably have only a few days left being a person on this planet. So why I am doing this?

“I am wrapping this up on Valentine’s Day, and the most genuine, non-vase-oriented gift I can hope for is that the right person reads this, finds Jason, and another love story begins…”
