In July 2015, Matthew Swart was also lucky enough to enjoy a “beautiful experience” with four of the elusive otters on Scarborough Beach.

He said in 15 years living in the area, he’d only ever before had two brief glimpses of single otters. He said, with their curious nature, they were like “amphibious meerkats”. Watch his video of the otters on Scarborough Beach here.

Western Cape photographer Rob Tarr also had a fortunate experience, interacting with a family of four otters, when he was out on an inflatable boat in False Bay in August of that year.

He too said that it had been a first for him after “many, many years of boating on False Bay”. View all of Rob Tarr’s photos of the family of Cape Clawless Otters.
