The scenes in South Africa – and abroad – on Friday 7 April 2017 are powerful, heartbreaking (that it’s come to this) and inspiring… as South Africans of all colours and political leanings stand together peacefully in solidarity, to beg the ruling ANC party to remove their leader, Jacob Zuma, as President of the country and replace him with someone of integrity who cares for the country and its people, above him- or herself and their cronies. Importantly this is not a march against the ANC… but just against one particular man being in charge. Here are just some of the messages and photos being shared. (Please also check SAPeople’s Facebook page for a Friday March photo album that’s being updated all day.)

JACK PAROW (musician):

“I was born in this beautiful country, born & fkn bred. Ive bled, ive cried, ive laughed, ive kots’d in the grass & the dust but now its time to fkn stand up for what we believe in & fight corruption on all fronts in our beautiful country. Because fok, im over this kak, im proudly south african, FOKKEN proudly, and ive had enough of people in power breaking it down. We, the beautiful rainbow nation that is south africa are the only ones who can stop this. Stand up and be counted en tune die bullies, die gravy trein stop HIER!! The people of South Africa run this country, the politicians work for US & its about time they remember that!!”

‎Poem for South Africans from New York – by Sheereen Bhayat‎

Standing with my fellow South Africans back home. Strength from New York. Just a little something inspired by Lady Gaga’s song million reasons…

You’re giving us a million reasons to let you go
You’re giving us a million reasons please quit this show
You’re givin’ us a million reasons
Gave us a million reasons
Givin’ us a million reasons
About a million reasons
Head back to Nkandla there down in the hills
Find yourself some drywall and forever be still
You’re giving us a million reasons
Gave us a million reasons
Givin’ us a million reasons
About a million reasons
We bow down to pray
We try to make the worse seem better
Lord, show us the way
To get us through this chapter
You’ve got a hundred million reasons to walk away
And Zuma there’s no good one to stay.
Stand up for Peace. Stay safe everyone.
