Sergeant Kelehe, 35, currently works at the SAPS Tshwane Academy under the Division: Human Resource Development. He was previously posted at the Tactical Response Team in Rustenburg and has served the South African community diligently for the past 13 years, said the SAPS.

Sergeant Kelehe – who grew up at Sekhing Village, Taung in the North West Province – is a sports fanatic and started running the Comrades Marathon in 2007 at the age of 25… when he crossed the finish-line in 40th place.

The motivated and disciplined sergeant continued to train and participate in this and other races.

In 2015 Kelehe, then a Constable, won the prestigious Comrades marathon, after coming third in 2014.

“The South African Police Service is exceptionally proud of Sergeant Kelehe and congratulates him on yet another fine achievement in his athletics career,” said the Acting National Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetje Mothiba

“In terms of our health and fitness policy, which encourages an all-round healthy life style, all employees are required to remain active. This not only contributes to their well-being but also ensures that SAPS employees are well-equipped physically and mentally to perform their duties optimally.

“We are indeed proud to have members of Sergeant Kelehe’s calibre among our ranks and hope this will encourage other members to continue to represent the SAPS in different sporting codes.”

All other police employees who participated in the Comrades Marathon 2017 were also commended on their discipline and commitment.
