Dr Ben Ngubane has resigned with immediate effect as Non-Executive Director and Chairperson of the Board of Eskom. Public Enterprises Minister, Lynne Brown, made the announcement at 23h04 Monday night.

Brown said: “Dr Ngubane formally tendered his resignation, which I accepted” and thanked him “for his contribution to turning Eskom around since the load shedding days, and wish him well”.

She said that to ensure continuity at Eskom, “I have decided to appoint Mr Zethembe Khoza as interim Chairperson.”

Ngubane was implicated in former Public Protector Advocate Thuli Madonsela’s State Capture Report.

Writer and radio personality Eusebius McKaiser‏ said: “Ben Ngubane’s resignation as Eishkom board chair is good but it’s NOT a substitute for still holding him accountable. Many questions remain.”

Journalist and filmmaker Max du Preez tweeted: “Did Ben Ngubane resign from Eskom, did he retire, is he taking a sabbatical or will he also get a guided tour of Parliament like Molefe?”

Yesterday it was announced that Parliament will investigate Eskom concerning allegations of mismanagement in the issuing of tenders, including contracts to companies owned by the controversial Gupta Family.
