American media outlet TMZ has reported that Linkin Park’s lead singer, Chester Bennington, has been found dead at his home in Los Angeles county.

The singer was just 41, and leaves behind his wife and six children from two marriages. He had allegedly hanged himself at his home in Palos Verdes Estate. His body was found before 9am on Thursday.

Fans of the grammy-award winning band have reacted with shock, with many hoping news of Bennington’s death was just a publicity stunt, as Thursday morning began with the band uploading a new video – Talking to Myself – to its social media pages. At the time of posting this article, the band had still not issued any official statement on its Facebook page or elsewhere.

According to the BBC, the L.A. County coroner confirmed the tragic news.

Several reports say Bennington was devastated after the suicide of his close friend, singer Chris Cornell from Soundgarden… who died by suicide in May.

Bennington had reportedly talked about suicide in the past, and revealed that as child he was a victim of abuse. He had endured a long battle with alcohol and drugs.
