Opposition parties have called on South Africans to join a mass march on 8 August, when Parliament meets to decide on whether to recall President Jacob Zuma or not.

Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, tweeted: “South Africa, No work & No business on the 08 August 2017 in support of motion of no confidence against Zuma. Organize protest in your town… ”

The EFF’s Floyd Shivambu said: “The 8th of August must be the day we remove Duduzane’s Father (Guptas’ private property) from Office. Let’s shut Cape Town down!”

The EFF, together with the DA, IFP, COPE and other opposition parties are calling on Ministers of Parliament to “do the right thing” and vote Zuma out in the Motion of No Confidence, to be held next Tuesday in Cape Town.

The parties will be marching to Parliament on the 8th, followed by a live streaming on a big screen outside Parliament. See details below.

The DA said: “firing President Zuma is the first step towards building a better tomorrow” and that the mass march is the way for ANC MPs to “know that South Africans want Zuma OUT!”

Large protests are also expected to take place in Johannesburg as well.

A “People’s March” is also being organised for 7 August, the day before the Vote. According to GroundUp “#UniteBehind held a public meeting on Saturday at the Central Methodist Mission Church on Greenmarket Square in Cape Town to prepare for mass mobilisation in support of the recall of President Jacob Zuma.

“AmaBhungane journalist, Micah Reddy, explained the #GuptaLeaks and its implications for democracy. The city’s biggest civil society movements participated in the meeting, using the opportunity to mobilise for a “People’s March” to be held on 7 August… The march will demand that Zuma be recalled by the ANC.”

South Africa’s President did not help his cause when he was allegedly spotted this weekend leaving the Gupta Residence in Saxonwold, the very family that is suspected of holding him and various other ministers under “state capture”. Well known journalist Justice Malala tweeted that he had just seen the ‘blue light brigade’ leaving the Indian family’s luxury home on Friday night. Malala suggested he had visited the powerful Gupta Family to report back on the ANC’s National Executive Committee meeting.

“I saw his 17-car motorcade plus outriders leaving at 7.57pm. The man is shameless. We know where he takes his orders. #ANCNEC #Guptas,” said Malala.

The EFF celebrated their fourth birthday this weekend, saying “the enemy is traumatized”.
