South African comedian Trevor Noah has won his first Emmy (of hopefully many to come!) for his YouTube comedy special, “The Daily Show: Between the Scenes”.

The episodes include funny, interesting and varied titbits that Trevor offers as he engages the audience during the ad breaks, between the scenes that are actually broadcast for “The Daily Show”.

And very often these ‘between the scenes’ scenes include stories from his youth and from back home in South Africa.

Here’s one from January this year in which he chatted about feminism in South Africa. Listen to the crowd’s applause when he quotes the African saying: “You Strike a Woman, You Strike a Rock”.

Between the Scenes – Feminism in South Africa: The Daily Show

After a worldwide series of Women’s Marches, Trevor reflects on growing up in apartheid South Africa with powerful female resistance leaders like Winnie Mandela.

Most recently, Trevor discussed a date gone bad when he had accepted a broken window in his VW car in Joburg as ‘normal’ when he never should have… watch below.

The South African government congratulated Trevor, as did Arts and Culture Minister Nathi Mthethwa, tweeting: “It is with a deep sense of pride that I congratulate @TrevorNoah for winning the Outstanding Short Form Variety Series Emmy Award #Emmys2017.”

Trevor’s own tweet about the Emmy was short and appreciative: “#Grateful ????????????”

He wasn’t present to receive the award at the Creative Arts ceremony in Los Angeles, as he’s currently performing his stand-up comedy show in Washington DC.

The YouTube series won the Outstanding Short Form Variety Series award. Others in the category included Behind the Voice‚ Epic Rap Battles of History‚ Honest Trailers and The Star Wars Show.

The Creative Arts awards is the precursor to the main Emmy Awards ceremony which will be held this weekend.

After tweeting ‘Grateful’ Trevor managed to also find time to tweet this ‘selfie’ someone was trying to film in the midst of Hurricane Irma:
