In true Trevor style, the SA expat went straight to gratitude… and South Africans were at the top of his list.

“Let me begin by saying thank you – thank you to every single person who has been and continues to be a part of this amazing journey we call life. My fans in South Africa who propelled me into the world, my team @thedailyshow and @comedycentral, and of course every single person who continues to watch the show every night,” Trevor said in a post on social media.

“This week I celebrated winning my first Emmy and the extending of my deal to continue hosting the Daily Show until 2022.

“I work hard but I know nothing is achieved alone. So thank you all for your love and support.

“And of course thank you Jon Stewart you crazy wonderful man.” (The former Daily Show host was the one who suggested Trevor as his replacement.)

Trevor won the Emmy last week for his YouTube comedy special, “The Daily Show: Between the Scenes”.

The episodes include funny, interesting and varied titbits that Trevor offers as he engages the audience during the ad breaks, between filming the scenes that are actually broadcast for “The Daily Show”.

And very often these ‘between the scenes’ scenes include stories from his youth and from back home in South Africa.

The Emmy was awarded at the Creative Arts ceremony in Los Angeles last week (although Trevor wasn’t present as he was performing in Washington DC), which is the precursor to the main Emmy Awards ceremony which will be held this weekend.
