We met traveling. We knew it was in our blood and we knew it would be the thread that wove us together.

We spent 6 months exploring Europe: hiking mountains in Italy, catching ferries in Greece and sleeping on deserted beaches in Spain. When funds ran low, we headed back home to South Africa, but the travel bug ran deep.

When we found a VW T3 campervan for sale only a few kilometers from home, we just had to check it out. Once owned by a budding wildlife photographer, the van had been custom fit with a canvas pop up top, with easy lens access to get the perfect shot.

We knew there and then it was the one.

After hours of scrubbing, 4 new tyres, a new battery, a good buff and wax and a new set of curtains, Indie the van was ready for her first real adventure, tripping over South Africa.

Cruising back roads, crawling up hills and pulling over to smell the salty sea breeze, we discovered more of South Africa than we ever believed she could offer.

Follow us on @trippingoversa as we explore the raw beauty of the South African countryside. First up: Our road trip through the magical Western Cape.

We left from Durban, passing through Golden Gate just in time to catch the wild flowers at the West Coast National Park. We swam at Kraalbaai lagoon, ate olives in Darling and grabbed a beer at Riebeek Casteel.

We carried on further north to the natural hot springs in Citrusdal, then took a sharp U turn to join the magnificent Route 62. Sampling Pinotage in Robertson, dried fruit in Montagu and cruising through the enchanting Klein Karoo. Snacking on roosterkoek and passing through padstals for a cheeky drink, we said hi to some ostriches and crawled through the breathtaking cango caves.

We are still on the road so keep an eye out for Indie the van on Instagram @trippingoversa and on facebook https://www.facebook.com/TrippingOverSa/
