While most South Africans were chilling on Saturday and watching the Springboks vs Wallabies rugby match, NSPCA Inspector Nadia Hansa was out conducting a brilliant and brave rescue. NSPCA, the national council of SPCAs, posted the following photos of Hansa’s kind and daring deed to rescue a stranded and distressed dog.

According to the NSPCA, the dog was discovered by members of the Mountain Club of South Africa, who were out on a training climb in the “treacherous rocky cliffs in the Kings Kloof area” in Somerset West, Western Cape.

The dog – a Ridgeback Cross – was trapped high on a rock face, and was frightened, distressed and dehydrated.

The mountain climbers remained with the dog – whom they nicknamed ‘Craggy’ – and did their best to gain its trust, while Inspector Nadia Hansa made her way up to him.

According to the NSPCA: “Inspector Hansa then tranquillised Craggy so that she and the rescue team could safely bring him down the cliff face.

“The rescuers and their precious cargo arrived safely at the bottom and were greeted by relieved and happy team mates and escorted back to waiting vehicles. Craggy was taken for immediate veterinary assistance and is recovering well.”

Craggy was saved from certain death, say the NSPCA, thanks to the brave efforts of the Mountain Club of SA, and the NSPCA.

“Special thanks goes to Nick Reynolds who found the dog and to Nicky Knox and Deanne Kieser who joined him bringing water and staying with Craggy to comfort him,” they said.

“Sincere appreciation also goes to Johno who climbed the rock face with Inspector Hansa and harnessed Craggy, and brought him down from where he was trapped on the ledge.”
