South African cricketer AB de Villiers received a standing ovation in Paarl today as he secured his 25th One Day International (ODI) century and scored a career best 176! The achievement puts him into joint sixth position with Kumar Sangakkara for all-time century makers.

Tweeting from the ODI against Bangladesh in South Africa, Cricket SA said: “Standing ovation for AB as he departs for a career best 176. SA currently 345/4 after 48 over.”

It was quite a comeback to the Proteas for AB, as he managed a 104-ball-176 in this second ODI against the South Asian nation.

This is AB’s first century since his 101 against England in Cape Town in February 2016, and his first century against the Bangla Tigers. He has now scored a century against all the full-members teams except for Ireland and Afghanistan (against whom there have been fewer matches since they are new to the club).

Today’s 68-ball century was also AB’s sixth fastest ton in ODIs so far, his fastest having been against the West Indies in 2015 when he accomplished the feat in just 31 balls.

According to Sports Wallah this is the 12th century completed between Hashim Amla and AB which is the most that any South African pair has recorded.
