Former Eskom Board Chairman Zola Tsotsi’s statement to Parliament concerning the Eskom Inquiry has shocked South Africans around the country. Watch below.

Tsotsi’s revelations paint a picture of the Gupta Family being in control with President Jacob Zuma’s approval, and with the collusion of Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown.

Tsotsi claims he was threatened by Tony Gupta. He says at one point Tony Gupta told him: “You are not helping us with anything. We are the ones who put you in the position you are in. We are the ones who can take you out.”

Tsotsi said there is a “clear collusion” between Minister Brown and the Gupta Family.

He also alleged that Salim Essa (SA businessman with known links to the Gupta’s) presented him with a list people to appoint to Eskom Board positions. He says he gave Brown a different list for approval… but that the list which was returned to him from Brown was the same one as Essa’s.

On the suspension of certain executives, he said he found their suspensions “shocking”… and had to explain them to overseas investors, “defending the indefensible”.

Tsotsi testimony included phone calls and conversations he had with President Zuma, and how Dudu Myeni had called him to summon him to a meeting with Zuma.

Tsotsi claimed he quit the Eskom Board “under duress” – with a deadline at midnight – saying he was threatened with being charged for not being fit to be a company director.

EFF Deputy President Floyd Shivambu said: “Those who were denying the reality of Gupta led criminal syndicate should listen to former chairperson of ESKOM, Mr. Zola Tsotsi’s evidence in Chief at the #ESKOMInquiry!

Tsotsi ended his statement saying: “Corruption is the scourge that is denying our people the opportunity [for a better South Africa, and]… it is the duty of all of us to rid our society of this evil. I therefore applaud the initiative taken by this honourable house to get to the bottom of maladministration at state-owned enterprises.”

Minister Brown will be next to give testimony in the state capture enquiry.
