The man – who is believed to be 26-years-old and a Knysna local – had apparently been spotted floating in the water, unconscious.

Luckily for him, he was spotted by Featherbed Company and Nature Reserve ferry Paddle Cruiser who rescued him, and notified NSRI Knysna and ER24 ambulance services.

Jerome Simonis, NSRI Knysna station commander, said the man “appears to have gotten into difficulty while taking a swim”. Once Featherbed had the man onboard, they placed him in the medical recovery position while raising the alarm.

When NSRI reached the scene the patient had begun to regain consciousness and was transferred onto NSRI’s sea rescue craft in a stable condition.

From San Parks jetty, an ER24 ambulance crew transported him to hospital where he is expected to make a full recovery.

“NSRI commend the skipper and crew of the Featherbed Company and Nature Reserve passenger ferry Paddle Cruiser for the swift rescue efforts that saved this man’s life today,” said Simonis.
