Water and Sanitation Minister Nomvula Mokonyane said faith-based organisations play an important role in communities, and they can help as water challenges continue.

“The lack of rain – which has caused the average dam levels nationally to drop to as low as 59.6% – is a serious concern and we need a coordinated effort that will ensure we secure much needed rains to complement our interventions.”

Priests and pastors around the country have already been engaged in prayer meetings for the rain.

This past weekend, Pastor Alph Lukau held a ‘Miracle Rainfall Weekend’, drawing tens of thousands of people to the event in Sandton, Johannesburg, as well as online.

Pastor Lukau is founder of Alleluia Ministries International, and reportedly the richest pastor in the world, with an alleged net worth of $1-billion. Watch below (the video’s over two hours!).

The Pastor, who pulled up to the event in his Rolls Royce, called the Miracle Rainfall weekend a “divine buffet”… in which “showers of miracles fell in the house of God”.

He said: “Open the floodgates of heaven. Let it RAIN. Let it RAIN. Let it rain financial freedom, let it rain divine healing and divine health. Let it rain family reconciliation. Let it rain prosperity. Let it rain new jobs, promotions and miracle money. Let it rain!”

Well known evangelist Angus Buchan is arranging an It’s Time prayer meeting in Cape Town in March, which he promises will draw “the biggest crowd that the Western Cape has ever seen”. The event is scheduled for 11 am, Saturday March 24 at Swartklip Sports Field in Mitchells Plain.

Meanwhile, Minister Mokonyane says the department is working “around the clock” with various stakeholders to ensure people have uninterrupted access to water.

We call upon all South Africans to head this call and pray for rain, while also adhering to water restrictions in an effort to save the current water that we have.”

The Minister also called for behavioural change and said “we need to inculcate the culture of saving this precious resource at all times”. (See how the Cape Town family uses less than 50 litres of water for the WHOLE household.)
