The accident claimed the lives of five people, including the SA personalities: YoTV star and TV producer Akhumzi Jezile, Queen Mzansi actor Thoba Mseleni and former joyous Celebration gospel singer Siyasanga Kobese.

Eastern Cape MEC for Arts and Culture Pemmy Majodina said: “This is sad news, however, they have played their role and they have made us proud. They have been on various platforms advancing social cohesion and nation building. They have made it a point that coming from Eastern Cape does not disadvantage them to make their mark in the world on the platform of art and culture.”

Majodina said that the three stars had also made an effort to ensure that their language was used more in the entertainment industry.

“These are the people who were still looking forward but their lives were cut short. Be that as it may, we are with the family, we are with friends and supporters and we are saying when God has decided… nobody can stand in front of God. We must live for the values of what they stood for,” she said.

Tributes have been pouring in for the stars on social media.

Transport Minister Blade Nzimande has also once again urged motorists to be careful on the country’s roads, especially during long weekends when traffic volumes tend to increase. He said “human error accounts for the majority of the crashes we have in South Africa”.

Queenstown police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
