Hawaiian surfer Koa Smith had the ride of his life on 15 June 2018, surfing one of the world’s top waves – on the Skeleton Coast in Namibia.

Koa scored EIGHT barrels on the same one wave! Watch below as his journey on the wave goes on… and on!

The legendary Skeleton Bay waves are famous for being the longest and best left hand sand-bottomed wave on the planet, and six barrels is not totally uncommon… but eight is pretty unique!

The wave lasted for two-minutes, and drone pilot Chris Rogers told Surfer.com that Koa travelled over 1.5km (which is just under one mile). His average speed works out to 28 mph (which means he was going even faster at times).

The sought-after Skeleton Bay surf spot only became known to international surfers ten years ago, when Surfing Magazine ran a ‘Google Earth Challenge’ competition to find new waves… although apparently South Africans like big surf champion Grant ‘Twiggy’ Baker had surfed the bay before.

According to SurfHolidays.com these insane long waves only started at the end of the ’70s after Namibia’s “predominant south winds altered by 20 degrees”. They don’t mention how come the winds suddenly changed… but apparently this caused a change in currents and sand movement, resulting in the endless long sand bank.

Koa Smith clearly had a jol in Southern Africa. A few days after his epic surf, he posted an upside down pic of himself and said: “Good morning n howsit!! Have a beautiful day humans! ??…”
