Home Hijacking

In an upwardly mobile residential complex on Gauteng’s East Rand, suburban bliss has turned to living hell as cunning building hijackers have systematically muscled in to take over one unit after another.

Refusing to pay for rent, levies, water or electricity, they’re openly engaging in drug dealing and turf wars.

Owners of the bonded townhouses are left having to pay their mortgages, while their children are at risk from the violence and intimidation.

Law enforcement has been little help. Can home owners wrestle back their properties? (Presenter: Macfarlane Moleli,Producer: Graham Coetzer,Researcher: Sinethemba Nogude)
