A South African tourist – who has visited the Kruger National Park several times over the past 48 years – experienced a closer encounter with a lion than she’d ever dreamed of… especially since in the past few decades she says she’s needed binoculars and her imagination to spot lions!

During Hannetjie van der Westhuizen’s recent trip – in August 2018 – a young lion started chewing on her side mirror, clearly enjoying the chewiness… before he notices that there are people in the car! He then starts pawing on the window, almost pleading to be let in to play… although one YouTube commenter said the lion probably had the same feeling we all get when we’re at a vending machine, and can see what the snacks, but have no cash!

The incident – which was uploaded to Latest Sightings – happened on the S100, which is well known for sightings of lion.

Hannetjie told LatestSightings.com that the lion was part of a pride of five lions which are well known for ‘interacting’ with cars. She said this particular young male was especially curious.

“We were very excited and scared at first, but then we realized that lion was more curious and playful and was just merely investigating a strange object,” she said.

Hannetjie decided to move on when he started chewing on the tyres… just in case those sharp little teeth caused any damage!

LatestSightings.com points out that while visitors are encouraged to drive with windows open in order to hear the sounds of the bush… it’s imperative to close windows as soon as you get a lion sighting.
