The EFF said, in a media statement on Tuesday afternoon, that it welcomes Martinengo’s dismissal after his racist remarks.

“Unlike many who accept apologies of the racists, this station refused to stop there and took it a step further by firing a racist.”

The EFF said it is obvious the station acted so quickly, in order to avoid the “full might of the EFF like H&M did”… referring to the attacks on H&M stores in South Africa by EFF followers earlier this year, in protest of the chain store’s ‘coolest monkey’ sweaters.

The EFF said however that it is not satisfied only with the firing, and will be opening a criminal case against him “because racists belong in jail”.

Hot 91.9 said in a statement this morning that the “unfortunate and completely unacceptable incident took place during the Breakfast Show whereby‚ during the course of the broadcast‚ a reference was made by anchor presenter‚ Sasha Martinengo‚ who said “[A]nd people still listen to this monkey‚” referring to Mr. Julius Malema.”

The station also issued a public apology to Malema.

Martinengo tweeted later: “I’m sorry if I offended anyone‚ but I stand by what I said. Anyone‚ irrespective of their race‚ colour‚ creed ‚ religion‚ gender who disrespects a woman is a monkey.”

The EFF said in their statement that white people need to know that each time they use the k word or call black people monkeys, they can end up in jail.
