The President was presented with a commemorative stamp bearing his image by the SA Post Office at Tuynhuis in Cape Town on Tuesday… which happens to be World Post Day.

Ramaphosa becomes the fifth Head of State to be honoured with the commemorative stamp ever since the advent of democracy. (See the other four below.)

At the presentation, the President said in an ever-changing world, the postal sector plays a key role in facilitating all the objectives of growing the economy… and “should remain so into our digitised future”.

He called on SA citizens to support the Post Office – which offers a wide range of services, including banking. Ramaphosa pointed out that more than five million social grant recipients recently became beneficiaries of the PO’s diverse services.

SA Post Office CEO Mark Barnes joked that the President’s “face value” was now worth R4.20 – the amount that citizens can buy the stamp for.

“The South African Post Office occupies a special place in our endeavours to build a united, cohesive and proud South African nation,” said Ramaphosa.

“When you paste this stamp onto a postal item and send it into the world or the country, it will indeed be the realisation of ‘Thuma Mina!'” the President said.
