The three are a former Eskom CEO from 2007 to 2009, Jacob Maroga; Andy Calitz, who once worked at Eskom and Royal Dutch Shell and was a former CEO of LNG Canada; as well as a third person that wasn’t identified. None of the people confirmed the reports; nor did Eskom.

The CEO post has been empty since July, when the newly appointed Phakamani Hadebe became the 10th person to leave the post in 10 years. Chairman Jabu Mabuza has temporarily taken over the position until a permanent appointment is made. The application process ended in August and the new CEO should be announced by October 31.

Eskom has amassed R450bn of debt and is seen as the biggest risk to South Africa’s economy. It’s been looking for a new CEO since Chairman Jabu Mabuza took on the role in an acting capacity until a permanent appointment is made.
