Firefighters Urgently Need Energy Bars and Drinks as Lion’s Head Engulfed by Smoke

Pleas for energy bars and drinks have been posted on social media on Sunday night for the firefighting crews currently battling the Tafelberg Road Fire which is “burning fiercely in strong wind conditions”.

Volunteer Wildfire Services (VWS) asked for donations to please be dropped off at SANParks – Table Mountain National Park Newlands Fire Base off the M3/Union Ave for distribution to all crews on the line.

VWS currently has six crews, along with NCC Wildfires Working on Fire and City of Cape Town crews, tankers & aerial support.

VWS said: “Please avoid Kloof Nek/Signal Hill area and make way for emergency vehicles.‬”

Earlier on Sunday, the Angel Network in the Western Cape also issued an urgent appeal for water, snackbars and sandwiches for the fire fighters.

The Angel Network said there were 220 Fire fighters battling raging fires on Kloof Nek. Drop offs for the “selfless heroes” were: Roseland Street, Seapoint and Newlands Fire Stations.

“These fire fighters put their lives on the line to save ours, let’s do what we can to help and support them do their job! A big Shout Out to @Simply Asia for providing 100 meals already ? All donations will be greatly appreciated!” said the Angel Network.
