Mduduzi Manana, whose lunch-during-lockdown Instagram post led to the temporary removal of a cabinet minister yesterday, is again in the spotlight after a video surfaced showing him wandering around a luxurious house, sometimes in a Versace robe, posing with perfumes and racks of shoes as he is attended to by a butler and a maid.

The video also shows framed certificates made out to Manana, who wears a Gucci cap for most of the video, from Bentley and Porsche. The house appears to be the same one at which Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams had lunch with him and his family.

Manana, a former deputy minister of Higher Education who resigned after a 2017 incident where he assaulted three women at a Johannesburg nightclub, earlier this week posted pictures of Minister of Communications Stella Ndabeni-Abrahams having lunch with him during the lockdown. The pictures quickly led to a social media storm and the minister’s temporary removal from her post.

A statement posted by Manana’s foundation said the minister had been doing “essential” work picking up PPE equipment from him, although President Ramaphosa, when reprimanding Ndabeni-Abrahams, said he was “unmoved” by the excuses she tendered to him.

The video posted on Manana’s Facebook page in the last day states: “Watch out for the 1st black connoisseur real estate show to air on YouTube channel in July where we will be selling bespoke houses in Johannesburg and Cape Town… We will be offering tailor-made connoisseur services such as full interior deco, trained chef services, chauffeur, garden services and domestic services. It will be a 5-star service… We buy houses and convert them into bespoke spaces and sell them with all your suitable needs. Many professionals never have time so we will come in and offer a full service.”

The video is not the only social media attention Manana has been getting. Other posts have also appeared, some of them from his Instagram, showing former minister Malusi Gigaba and controversial Zuma-fan and Ekurhuleni mayor Mzwandile Masina at Manana’s house, with people questioning whether this had also happened during the lockdown.
