South Africa’s Brad Binder made history today – scoring his first MotoGP™ victory AND South Africa’s first ever win. His emotions were visible as he stood on the podium at the Monster Energy Grand Prix in the Czech Republic, proudly listening to the South African anthem play. Watch below.

As East Coast Radio Presenter Darren Maule said: “Goosebump stuff man! The 1st time the South African anthem is heard at a Moto GP. What a biscuit Brad Binder!!!
#MotoGP2020 #CzechGP ? ?”

It wasn’t the whole anthem (South Africa’s mutli-language anthem – Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika – is pretty long!)… but it was long enough to get Brad and every South African around the world who watches it choked up.

As the motorcyle racer told *Carte Blanche earlier this year – he was on a mission to take on the biggest challenge of his career so far… competing in the coveted MotoGP circuit for the first time. And look how amazingly he’s taken it on! As MotoGP™ coined it, Brad’s performance today was #Bradical, “taking a remarkable rookie victory in only his third  race”. (*Don’t miss Carte Blanche on DStv Now if you’re in SA, and on Showmax International  Showmax International in most countries abroad.)

This was also the maiden win for Brad’s team KTM Factory Racing.

It’s a fantastic birthday gift for Brad who turns 25 on Tuesday. This time last year he won his first Moto2 victory of the year in Austria… and earned himself a standing ovation.

An elated Brad said after today’s race: “This is a day I’ve dreamed of…” A huge dream come true for the boy from Potchefstroom who started his ‘career’ at around the age of six on go-carts!

Brad was praised by many today for his “supreme composure and race craft” which will hopefully secure him – and South Africa – more wins this season!

As Sean Harford said on the MotoGP SA Supporters group on FB on Sunday: “Well done you boytjie!! Keep up the fantastic job. We are very proud South Africans today. Hats off KTM.”
